Cockroaches are treated by the placement of baits/gels in hiding and/or feeding areas and also by the application of new generation pesticide formulations, to cracks, crevices, cavities, the rear of appliances and other potential harborage areas around machinery etc.

Gel baits
The gel bait acts as a food source for cockroaches. After being consumed, the bait interrupts the breeding cycles as a result of cockroaches transferring the bait to each other through their carnivorous nature and habit of grooming each other.

New Generation Low Toxic Chemicals
The products Flick Pest Control uses are new generation, low toxic gel baits, and insect growth regulators. When used properly, and in conjunction with each other, both products provide effective long term control of cockroaches.

Rodent Monitoring and Baiting

Rodent lockable bait stations provided by Flick Pest Control can target both rats and mice.

It is extremely important to closely monitor and control mice and rats, as they can result in both financial and potential health risks. Large scale food spoilage can be attributed to rodents through contamination and physical damage/consumption. It is estimated that up to a third of the world’s food supplies never reach consumers, due to losses attributed to rodents. Rodents are omnivorous, consuming all types of food and food based products and they require water, which can be sourced from various contributing factors; condensation from machinery and service pipes, air-conditioning outlets, and water pooling in drain traps to mention but a few.

Risks Involved in Rodent activity
Rodents are carriers and transmitters of many diseases affecting humans. These include; Bubonic Plague, Typhus, Rat Bite Fever, Hantavirus, Leptospirosis, Rickettsial diseases, Trichinosis and most commonly seen in food poisoning bacteria such as Salmonella.

Secure Baiting
All Flick Pest Control rodent stations offer secure baiting to ensure rodents will not take the rodenticide bait away with them. This is critical in food handling premises as it reduces the risk of cross contamination. Securing the bait allows peace of mind to clients as rodenticide will not fall out of stations and affect untargeted species.

Number Bait Stations
Flick Pest Control’s rodent bait stations are strategically positioned, depending on the individual site requirements – established by a comprehensive inspection by a qualified pest technician – and secured into place. The rodent stations are usually installed around the perimeter of the building, fence lines, near entrances and in areas where the rodents may breed, hide or forage for food.

Fumigation can largely be avoided, as early detection of any wood borer can easily be treated. While many homeowners have inspections done – as required by law in KZN – when they have sold the property; or only after an infestation is suspected, this is counter productive. We recommend annual inspection by a reputable, professional pest control company, as the earlier wood borer is detected, the simpler and less costly the treatment.

Should an infestation be identified, there are two main treatment options, depending on the degree and stage of the infestation. If detected early enough, the best treatment option is a palliative treatment (localised drilling) of infested timbers and injecting them with termiticide as well as spraying the rest of the roof timbers. However, if the infestation is rife, the home will need to be fumigated (tent fumigation). If left untreated, wood borer can seriously weaken timber, which may lead to structural failure of timbers.
